July in Paris, no French revolution

Paris 2024 will not be like 1789 and there will be no Napoleon to subvert the established order. An allegory of dates and names to say that Première Vision is sticking to its summer date and will not change venue to escape the almost concomitant Olympics.

The confirmation, albeit not definitive at a time when markets, frontiers and programmes are very unstable, comes directly from Gilles Lasbordes, in Milan for Denim Première Vision: the show’s director is aware of the sector’s difficulties, which could become more acute in 2024. And while he approves of the decision to give the jeans fair a stable and secure place for more than a year, he also feels the pulse of PV Paris.

“But after the Milan editions, the denim tour will start again,” assures Lasbordes.

What historical moment are we in for textiles?
It is certainly a difficult moment. Germany has slowed down for some time, but also in the rest of Europe the numbers are not the best.

Speaking of Germany. Munich Fabric Start has taken a step back and decided to return in September and for only two days. PV Paris what will it do?
There is a climate of great change, not only in Germany. It is true that we are evaluating some options (the Barcelona or Lyon hypotheses had been aired, ed.), more for logistical reasons linked to the Olympics than anything else, but there will be no shake-up.

What problems could the Olympics bring for Première Vision?
Actually, favourable conditions could also be created. The Parisian tourist office even expects fewer ‘classic’ tourists, those who only want to visit the city, precisely to avoid the period when Paris will be full of sports fans. And even many inhabitants of the Île de France have already said they will holiday elsewhere to avoid chaos. So the accommodation capacity should be more than sufficient.

What about PV fairs outside France?
In New York we had a very good response and the new location in the Tribeca area also worked well. In Shenzhen we went with a number of companies that were not very high, the Chinese market is still complex, but with great opportunities
